In Arevabuyr and Marmarashen villages, local youth tapped into their potential as critical thinkers and informed citizens through the “Path to Media Literacy” workshop, part of the Arevashen Youth Empowerment Project.
Led by journalist and communication specialist Ani Nazaryan, the workshop introduced young participants to the history of media, the principles of journalistic ethics, and the tools needed to identify misinformation, fake news, and AI-generated content. Through interactive discussions and games, the youth enhanced their critical thinking, learned to protect personal data, and explored the impact of artificial intelligence on information accuracy.
The project created space for youth to develop concrete skills, strengthen their voice, and take ownership of how information is used and shared in their communities.
Jointly developed by ArmeniaCorps participants from Arevabuyr and Marmarashen, and funded through the US Department of State Public Diplomacy Section grant, this initiative reflects a commitment to non-formal education and youth-led learning.
By empowering rural youth to navigate today’s complex media landscape, the project directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
We extend our sincere thanks to Ani Nazaryan for generously sharing her knowledge and supporting young people in becoming active, informed, and responsible members of society.
