Investing in Women, Strengthening Villages: Financial Literacy in Action

Financial literacy is more than numbers—it’s a pathway to empowerment, stability, and stronger communities. Recognizing this, the “Solutions to Important Problems Around the Coffee Table” initiative brought vital financial knowledge to women from Khachpar and neighboring villages.

Developed and implemented by an ArmeniaCorps participant from Khachpar, this initiative is grounded in the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, recognizing women’s potential as leaders and changemakers within their communities. Funded by the Cultural Vistas Muskie Alumni Small Grants Program, it builds on existing community strengths and promotes locally led, sustainable development.

The training—led by Siranush Seyranyan, CFO of IT Spark LLC and Head of B2B Marketing—covered essential topics including budgeting, saving, and strategies for financial security in retirement. Yet its impact went beyond technical skills. The session became a dynamic space for peer exchange, where rural women discussed personal experiences, shared coping strategies, and emphasized the power of self-education.

By investing in financial literacy, the project advances SDG 5: Gender Equality, by strengthening women’s economic agency, and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by building financial capacity for economic participation.

By mobilizing local knowledge and creating space for collective problem-solving, ArmeniaCorps is helping rural women make informed financial decisions that benefit not only their families but their entire communities.
