From Dreams to Decisions: Arevashen Project Guides Rural Youth Toward Purposeful Futures

In the villages of Arevabuyr and Marmarashen, where access to non-formal educational resources remains limited, the Arevashen project emerged as a community-driven solution, offering rural youth the tools, confidence, and knowledge to shape their own futures.

Rooted in the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, the initiative built upon the talents and aspirations of local youth. Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, the project created a platform for participants to reflect on their strengths, explore new ideas, and envision future academic and career paths with greater clarity.

One standout session focused on professional orientation, led by Nvard Melkonyan, head of the PR Master’s program at Yerevan State University and co-founder of SPRING-PR-Company. Her guidance inspired participants to think beyond limitations and recognize the value of both soft and hard skills, the power of volunteering, and the diverse opportunities that exist within Armenia and beyond.

Thanks to the Arevashen program, we had the privilege of engaging in meaningful discussions and receiving invaluable guidance on choosing the right career path. Selecting a profession is a weighty decision, and support during this pivotal step is essential,” shared Rafayel Shiroyan, a project participant.

The project not only aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive, lifelong learning, but also supported SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing youth for meaningful engagement in the workforce.

The Arevashen project is a testament to the power of youth-led, locally developed initiatives. It was created and implemented under the ArmeniaCorps Development Initiative by ArmeniaCorps participants from Arevabuyr and Marmarashen villages. The project is funded by the US Department of State’s Public Diplomacy Section.
