Promoting Digital Resilience: ArmeniaCorps Participants Advance Media Literacy in Rural Armenia

Congratulations to ArmeniaCorps participants Alvard Manukyan, Harutyun Arakelyan, Nvard Martirosyan, Lily Baghdasaryan, and Haykanush Manukyan for successfully implementing the project “Enhancing Media Literacy Among the Residents of Hovtashat, Sipanik Villages, and Masis City.”

In today’s digital era, the spread of misinformation and fake news presents a growing threat—especially in communities with limited access to accurate information and digital tools. Recognizing this, ArmeniaCorps participants designed a targeted awareness-raising project to equip local residents with media literacy and fact-checking skills.

Drawing on the knowledge and tools gained through ArmeniaCorps workshops on community needs assessment and program development, the team collaborated with seasoned journalists Nune Hakhverdyan and Gegham Vardanyan to deliver interactive training sessions. Over 25 participants from Hovtashat, Sipanik, and Masis learned to critically analyze media content, identify disinformation and bias, and distinguish between reliable and misleading sources.

The project was implemented in close collaboration with the Hovtashat village administration and kindergarten, which hosted the training, and with the administrations of Sipanik and Masis, which helped raise awareness and mobilize participants.

As a result, the initiative not only strengthened individual digital literacy but also fostered community-level resilience by empowering residents to become informed, engaged citizens—capable of contributing to a more transparent and media-literate society.

This project was developed and implemented as part of the ArmeniaCorps Development Initiative, with funding from the U.S. Department of State Public Diplomacy Section.
