ArmeniaCorps I: A Celebration of Community-Led Change

The closing ceremony of “ArmeniaCorps I” marked the culmination of a transformative journey that empowered rural communities to lead their own development using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. By recognizing and mobilizing local talents, knowledge, and relationships, ArmeniaCorps participants co-created solutions that respond to real challenges in their villages.

Rooted in the values of participation, inclusion, and sustainability, the ArmeniaCorps initiative directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—especially SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The ceremony brought together community leaders, local government officials, and international supporters. Davit Hambardzumyan, leader of the Masis consolidated community, and Lusine Eksuzyan, U.S. Embassy representative, highlighted how community engagement strengthens local governance and drives equitable development.

Participants shared how the ABCD approach shifted the focus from external aid to internal assets—unlocking the potential of youth, women, and civic actors to drive sustainable impact. Hayasa Tahmazyan, ArmeniaCorps Head, presented the initiative’s achievements, including enhanced collaboration across communities, increased civic participation, and the development and implementation of 9 grassroots projects.

The event concluded with the awarding of certificates, honoring the commitment and leadership of participants who demonstrated that lasting change begins from within communities.

ArmeniaCorps I proves that when people build on what they have, they discover they have more than they imagined. Together, we are advancing a model of locally led development that is inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with Armenia’s development goals.
